-
- Woven Organic: The standard for daily drivers. It contains copper or brass wire woven into the material for strength, offering the smoothest engagement.
-
Kevlar: Used in high-mileage or off-road vehicles. It lasts 2–3 times longer than organic material but requires a strict 1,000-mile “break-in” period
-
Cerametallic (Puck Style): Found in race cars. Instead of a full circle, it uses “pucks” to increase pressure per square inch. It grabs instantly but can “chatter” in stop-and-go traffic.
-
Sprung Hub (Dampening): Most street discs have 4 to 8 heavy-duty coil springs in the center. These act as shock absorbers, soaking up the “thumping” of the engine’s power strokes to prevent transmission gear rattle.
-
Segmented Facings: High-performance discs often have gaps between the friction material segments. This allows heat to escape and prevents the disc from “warping” under heavy use.
